Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that special attention should be paid to protecting the rights of workers during the economic crisis. Speaking in light of International Workers’ Day, he said “some considered Serbia’s transition from one system into another in 2000 not as a transition into modern capitalism, but as a chance to accumulate capital.” Dacic: Serbia to support workers “Workers should fight for their rights. The people who bought the factories are not slave owners, they are owners of a part of the capital,” Dacic said in a ceremony in which a wreath was placed on the monument of Dimitrije Tucovic, the leader of the Socialist Movement in Serbia at the beginning of the 20th century. “If U.S. President Barack Obama is speaking about reforming the health system and having great availability of education for all categories of the population, I do not see a reason for us not to talk about this publicly and very openly,” the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader said. SPS City Council President Aleksandar Antic greeted on this holiday “all who live off their work.” “I am convinced that a time is ahead of us in which we will preserve our current jobs and create new ones. No one can live better if there are no new jobs,” Antic said. The two SPS officials were greeted at the ceremony by about 200 party supporters.
