SDP MP Meho Omerovic told B92 that a meeting will be held in the government after the holidays regarding the Sandzak statistical region problem. According to Omerovic, the meeting was initiated by the Statistical Office, and will be held at the beginning of next week. Sandzak parties, govt. reps set to meet Bosniak (Muslim) parties in the southwestern Sandzak area of Serbia have voiced their dissatisfaction with the current solutions regarding this statistical region and a government decree defining it. "This is about honoring agreements and guarantees that we have received before from Minister Mladjan Dinkic and from those who made the Law on Regional Development, where it is clearly visible what we have asked for and what must be and should be fulfilled," said he. "The municipalities that belong to Sandzak, the six municipalities, will be part of one region and that is an issue related to the economy that has nothing to do with political divisions or something connected to constitutional changes or the administrative borders of the state of Serbia. This is above all about the most underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia being economically connected and developing as fast as possible," Omerovic stated. The Bosniak parties want the government decree dated December 24 changed. The decree puts the towns of Novi Pazar, and Tutin into the Central, while Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varos and Sjenica were added to the Western region. The parties say that this is violating a promise given to them that the six towns would be part of one statistical region. According to reports yesterday, they threatened to withdraw their support in parliament for the ruling coalition over this issue.
