Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic says that forming a government with the Democratic Party (DS) was an “absolute hit.” Dacic said that he had very good cooperation with DS leader and President Boris Tadic and his entire party. Dacic: Government with DS “absolute hit" “The two of us have very good cooperation regarding the main strategic questions. I believe that we generally have good relations with the DS, and the results of the elections in Vrbas show that this could be a long-term and stable coalition,” the SPS leader told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik. “I am sure that, at this time moment in time, the SPS is the third strongest party in Serbia, and our goal is to profile ourselves as a strong and modern party of socialist and social-democratic orientation with a strong program focused on European integration, preserving Serbia’s national interests and social justice,” Dacic said. He said that forming a coalition with the DS had been an excellent move. “That was my personal proposal to SPS senior officials. I said that I proposed entering a coalition with the DS and I take personal responsibility for it. This decision has shown that it was in the best interests of the SPS and all of Serbia,” said Dacic, who is also the interior minister. He said that the rise of the Socialists and their coalition partners in PUPS and JS could be seen in the results of the local elections in Vozdovac, Zemun, Kosjeric, Kovin, Pec, Pristina and Vrbas. The minister said that this string of success was a result of the SPS’s decision to enter a coalition with the DS on all levels. Ivica Dacic (FoNet, archive)
