Serbia will take its decision on the Montenegrin and Bosnian ambassadors’ credentials in keeping with national interests and legal procedure, says Vuk Jeremic. Asked at a press conference following the foreign minister’s meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn why the two ambassadors were still waiting for confirmation of their credentials, Jeremic said there would be no public statement until a final decision had been taken. "Serbia won't be rushed on ambassadorial decision" The minister added that, under the Vienna Convention, he was obliged to keep the candidates’ details confidential until a decision was taken. “Although certain countries go public with their ambassadorial candidates, thus breaching the Vienna Convention, Serbia will not do so. Serbia will, in line with legal procedure and mindful above all of its national interests and national dignity, take a decision in each specific case,“ he said. Asked about which agency would be chosen to lobby for Serbia’s interests in the U.S., Jeremic said that the government was already working with a number of companies in various countries. “There are several of them, I don’t know exactly which one you have in mind, but I think overall that it’s good to have the best possible presence in international centers where understanding is needed, and with which one needs to set about working on achieving what the government has defined as a national interest,“ the minister explained. He did not wish to comment on the decision of the Australian courts to uphold the appeal of Dragan Vasiljkovic, aka Captain Dragan, against his extradition to Croatia. Jeremic said that this would be tantamount to interference in another country’s internal affairs, since Vasiljkovic was an Australian citizen and the decision had been taken by an Australian court. Asked about constitutional changes in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the minister said that Serbia wanted the best possible relations with Sarajevo, which it considered to be Serbia’s closest and most important neighbor. He said that Serbia would continue to support “everything in line with the Bosnian Constitution, which envisions the forms of constitutional change, that is decided by the three constitutive peoples and two entities.“ Vuk Jeremic (FoNet, archive)
