A meeting of caucus chiefs has begun in parliament with state television RTS General Director Aleksandar Tijanic about parliamentary session broadcasts. Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic scheduled the meeting after the parliamentary majority demanded the public be kept informed about parliamentary work through direct TV broadcasts. Parliament seeks solution to RTS broadcasts The parliament tied its work exclusively to direct RTS broadcasts, resulting in shortened sessions or delays due to tennis match broadcasts over the past few days. Tijanic said it wasn’t appropriate to tie the parliament’s work to direct TV broadcasts, as the public broadcaster isn’t able to carry them without interruption. The RTS director on Friday sent a letter to the parliament’s secretary, Veljko Odalovic, in which he suggested an emergency meeting to consider a possible long-term solution in compliance with the law, which has to protect the autonomy of the public broadcaster while simultaneously providing the public with a direct view of the Parliament’s work. Djukic-Dejanovic said she hopes that, after meeting with the RTS director, a solution will be reached and dismissed opposition claims that the “broadcast delay” situation was planned in advance by the ruling coalition, with the sports events serving only as an alibi. On parliament’s agenda today are appointments of permanent delegations to international institutions, as well as dissolving the current Republic Election Commission and appointing replacements.
