G17 Plus leader and Deputy Prime Minister Mladjan Dinkic says there is a crisis of authority within the government. He says that a government where “some people outside it are trying to take charge of its departments” is doomed to failure. Dinkic warns of “crisis of authority“ in govt. “If you deprive the prime minister, defense minister, finance minister, and economy minister of their authority, and if some people outside the government are trying to run its departments, that government is doomed to failure,” Dinkic said in an interview for Belgrade daily Politika published on Friday, adding that the crisis of authority had been hanging over the government since October. “New Year’s on its way, we’ll all cool off a bit and get some rest, but if the government is then unable to reestablish its authority soon, and ministers are prevented from doing their jobs and from assuming their responsibilities, we won’t be able to run with our hands and legs tied,“ warned the minister. He said that the “crisis of authority has become so evident that we have a situation where certain members of public company boards vote against the decisions of their own government,” and in which “a soldier attacks the defence minister in public, which has never happened before.” Stating that a year of global economic crisis loomed, which had already started to seriously impact on a number of companies, Dinkic said that “it will be possible to mitigate the consequences of this crisis only if the government works quickly, efficiently and as a team.” “A government with no authority has no chance of success,” the minister underlined. Dinkic said that his party was not afraid of new elections, claiming that “all the threats of new elections are based on completely inaccurate appraisals of so-called media magnates that are advising President Tadic.” He said that President Boris Tadic “will have to assume complete responsibility for all the problems in society if he’s unable to see that the government has no authority.” Mladjan Dinkic (FoNet, archive)
