Former Novi Sad mayor and founder of the National Party, Maja Gojkovic, predicts that there will be new elections in 2009. She explained to B92 why she was no longer cooperating with officials of the Serb Radical Party (SRS), a party she had helped found. National Party: Elections in 2009 She told B92 that she had decided to join forces with the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia (NS) because their orientation was closest to the civil center-right. “Mr. [Aleksandar] Vucic offered me a place in the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), but I knew the people in it at the time, so I was not interested, though I was not familiar with their manifesto. And I still don’t know it after the founding congress, so I chose the natural opposition, one which seriously thinks an alliance is necessary for changes for a better Serbia,” Gojkovic said. Asked why she had chosen to side with the political losers at the last elections, the National Party leader said that there would be new elections in 2009. “For me, everyone who does not participate in the government are losers, but we will have new elections in 2009, and we will see if you were right or if the coalition with DSS and NS is a good combination. I expect it to be an important player in the future government,” Gojkovic said.
