Ivo Viskovic has criticized the often contradictory statements given by officials to the press. The president of the European Movement’s Forum for International Relations today outlined an idea to hold a debate between representatives from all the political parties, in order for them to present their own foreign policy views through dialogue with the Forum. Experts slam lack of foreign policy cohesion Forum President in Serbia Zivorad Kovacevic said that it was necessary for the foreign minister to submit at least one report to parliament on how work and plans were progressing. Kovacevic said the last time anything similar had happened was during Goran Svilanovic's term as foreign minister. He said that seven years had passed since the democratic changes, and that it was about time certain foreign policy priorities were set. In Kovacevic’s opinion, parliament played very little part in foreign policy, though this was not the fault of the government, “as it doesn’t always behave responsibly, even when its most explicit duties are at stake.” The forum president stated that the Foreign Ministry should be completely autonomous politically and analytically, and that it should have a spokesman. “It’s a shame that the practice of employing the best graduates from the Faculty of Political Science and the Faculty of Law has been scrapped,” he concluded, stressing that forming diplomatic staff was a long and costly process.
