Armed villagers are no longer patrolling the Serb village of Rasevac in the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ), reports say. The locals, who were upset by night-long sporadic gunfire from the Kosovo side between Monday and Tuesday, and strong searchlights directed at their homes, have decided to let Serbian police (MUP) and Army (VS) officers do the patrolling. MUP, army take over patrols in GSZ village The area in the south is located along the administrative border between Kosovo and central Serbia. Last night there were no incidents, our reporter in the GSZ says. "There are no activities, the situation is regular and there is no shooting," a VS NCO from Base Trmka said. The villagers from Rasevac were also supported by those from other nearby villages who last night came to visit them. Meanwhile in Belgrade, daily Politika today writes that it was in fact a "lost cow" that caused the incident. The newspaper's "well-informed sources" were quoted as saying that the cow had wandered from an ethnic Albanian village on the other side of the line. "After dark, there was confusion where there was sporadic shooting, so the residents were upset," said the daily, but did not further elaborate on this claim. No incident No incident was registered two nights ago in the area of Rasevac, in the municipality of Kursuumlija, KFOR told Tanjug on Wednesday. A KFOR representative stated that the NATO-led force "investigated the situation in view of the alleged incidents in the area of Rasevac village and that there were no indications of any incidents in that area". KFOR carried out an extensive search and did not find any evidence of any incidents in this area, he said. After thorough consultations with representatives of the Serbian Army, who also have no indication that any shooting or incidents had taken place, KFOR states that the area around Rasevac village is peaceful and stable, the spokesperson said. Tanjug also quoted its unnamed source as saying that KFOR soldiers would continue closely monitoring the situation and that they would maintain a secure and safe environment, adding that they were prepared to quickly respond to any scenario.
