Croatian government downplays HRW report

The organization has recommended that the Croatian government should provide permanent housing for those Serbs who no longer have the housing rights, employ more Serbs in the public sector, publicly condemn all ethnic incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Government’s spokesman Ratko Maček, however, treats HWR’s warnings and recommendations as no more than an opinion aired by an NGO. “There are 28,000 associations in Croatia, while those that call themselves non-governmental point out to certain issues, however, the government never comments on their statements”, Maček concluded.
