BELGRADE A Belgrade city bus driver was attacked by three persons while he was driving a bus full of passengers on Wednesday night. It is added in the release that the perpetrators also attacked the police officers but were subdued and arrested. The injured driver was taken to the Zemun Hospital. He told daily Blic that one of the hooligans started hitting and kicking him while he was driving the bus at about 40 kilometers per hour. “I only thought about how to stop the bus with more than 20 passengers. When I slammed on the breaks, I managed to defend myself somehow but the second young man lunged at me and in the end a young woman barged into the cabin,” Obradovic explained. He said that the passengers had retreated to the back of the bus during the incident. The driver said that he had threatened to shoot the attackers with a gun once he had realized that he would not be able to defend himself. “Of course, I did not have the gun but they ran away and tried to break open the middle door. I immediately called the police who came after a minute. The young men even attacked the police officers,” the driver said. He suffered injuries to his neck, chest and right leg. The union once again called on authorities to grant a special status to city transportation drivers that would allow courts to impose stiffer sentences on their attackers. (Tanjug, file) Blic Tanjug
