Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says police and the prosecutor had been looking into who helped Ratko Mladic hide and that they would continue those activities. These activities would continue, he stated, speaking on Wednesday in Belgrade. "Mladic's helpers under investigation" According to Dacic, the investigation has been going on for years and one of its results is Mladic's arrest. The investigators will also focus on who helped Mladic hide in Lazarevo, the village where he was found, he noted. Five people were brought in to the police station in Zrenjanin, a town near the village, just after Mladic's arrest, but they were later released, he added. It is up to the war crimes prosecutor and other court authorities whether they are going to be tried or not, said the minister. The police took no additional statements from Mladic after the apprehension, Dacic remarked. Commenting on security risks during Mladic's transfer to The Hague, Dacic stated that some risks had been identified, but that it was determined he could be transferred during the day. Hundreds of police officers and many vehicles were involved in the operation, he revealed. It was determined that Mladic could be extradited during the day, unlike former Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic, who had to be transported during the night, Dacic added. The minister attended earlier a regional conference on cooperation during disasters in Southeastern Europe. Ivica Dacic (Beta)
