Around 520 inmates at Dubrava prison near Istok have ended their hunger strike after talks with Kosovo Justice Minister Nekibe Kelmendi. According to electronic media in Pristina, a meeting took place yesterday afternoon between Kelmendi and strike leaders, during which it was agreed to call off the hunger strike. Kosovo inmates end hunger strike The minister informed the strikers that the ministry had submitted to the government a draft law on amnesty, and she was certain that that law would be included on the Kosovo assembly’s agenda very soon. The strikers are calling for improved prison conditions, for all those who have served over two-thirds of their sentences to be eligible for probation, and for a year of prison to be calculated as nine months of a calendar year.
