Policemen deny knowledge of Bytyqi murders Police officers Sreten Popovic and Milos Stojanovic have been accused of war crimes by depriving U.S. citizens Ilir, Mehmet and Agron Bitiqi “of the right to a legal trial, and so helping unidentified members of the Serbian MUP and the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) to take their lives.” The Bytyqi brothers’ bodies were discovered in 2001 at a burial site in Petrovo Selo, near Kladovo. At today’s hearing, Sasa Zivkovic, Darko Milosev, Slavisa Kojic, Nebojsa Momcilovic and Zeljko Radin, who attended a police training camp in Petrovo Selo in 1999, claimed that they did not know that the three brothers had been incarcerated. The five witnesses stated that they did not know the two defendants, and that nothing out of the ordinary had taken place during their training in Petrovo Selo, and that their stay there was memorable only for the exceptionally gruelling physical nature of the training. The trial continues tomorrow.
