Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic says it is "possible, and even highly likely" that Ejup Ganic will be tried in Serbia. “Serbia's request for extradition is valid in terms of procedure. It was adopted by the UK Home Secretary and the extradition process to Serbia was launched before a London court. There is only one request for Ganic's extradition and that is the one that Serbia filed,” Vukcevic said for the Belgrade-based daily Danas. The former Muslim member of Bosnia's wartime presidency was arrested at London's Heathrow Airport on March 1 based on an Interpol warrant issued by Serbia, placed in extradition custody in London and ten days released on a EUR 300,000 bail. He has also been prohibited from leaving the UK until the court decides on the extradition request. The War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade District Court has launched an investigation against Ganic in December 2008, for his involvement in attacks on the facilities of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) in Sarajevo, that included a military hospital, the JNA Army Clubhouse, and a retreating convoy of ambulances and military vehicles in Dobrovoljacka Street in May 1992. The attacks came despite a previous explicit agreement that the troops will be given a safe passage out of Bosnia. The charges against Ganic include war crimes against wounded and sick persons and use of illegal means of combat.
