Kosovo president cancels trip to Belgium

Many high ranking international officials have been invited to the event, and Jahjaga was to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and representatives of the European Union, according to reports.

These meeting have been canceled "because Jahjaga wishes to be directly engaged in overcoming the institutional blockade and the political crisis," the Beta news agency reported, referring the post-election deadlock in Kosovo.

The agency also noted in its report that this is "the third visit" that Jahjaga has canceled this month.

On Monday, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić announced that he would not take part in the gathering in Belgium because organizers decided to display symbols of the self-proclaimed "Republic of Kosovo."
