BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Dragan Djilas says that the party must not break up and that he will not run for the leader if Boris Tadic decides to do so. “If (current DS leader) Boris Tadic is a candidate for leader, I will not be a candidate. That’s my decision and I stand by it,” he told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). DS must not break up, official says He pointed out that he had made a decision because he believed that the DS must not break up because “it is an important and big party that needs to be reformed”. “My assessment of choices, mistakes, good and bad moves I will present to the party organs through a vision of what I think should be done. If it is accepted by the DS leader and DS members, I believe that the DS will return to power as the biggest Serbian party in a very short period of time, a year or two, not only in Belgrade but in other parts of Serbia,” Djilas said. He pointed out that the DS “needs to get rid of some people who had been in power for too long and took advantage of the party”. “If my ideas do not get accepted, I reserve the right to decide on my future steps. In any case, it would not be a partition of the DS to factions,” the Belgrade mayor noted. Commenting on the Belgrade political scene, he stressed he expected parties that took part in the election in the capital to stand behind their promises and to respect the will of the Belgrade citizens.
