Zastava Trucks workers prevented today the seizure of company property, that was to be carried out according to a European Court of Human Rights ruling. The court ruling came following a plea filed by Tomislav Jovanovic, a former worker of the Kragujevac-based factory. Factory workers prevent seizure of company property Court officers were not able to seize the property since the workers had blocked all three entrances to the compound. "The officers said they had an order to seize the property, but we expressed the union's view that we would not allow it and that the privatization law gave us the right to do so," head of the company's autonomous union Goran Miletic stated. "As the dispute before the domestic judiciary lasted a long time, a former worker of the factory addressed the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and won the legal battle and the state of Serbia was ordered to reimburse him RSD 7mn plus interest and legal costs," he explained. “The workers have no problem with Jovanovic's lawsuit against he company, but will not let the property be taken away,” Miletic stressed. He told reporters the company's account was not frozen but that there was little money on it and that the company had been receiving subsidies from the government since 2008. Zastava Trucks has been restructuring for four years now. It currently employs 736 people. It produced 153 vehicles last year. The plan for his year is to make 250.
