Belgrade will send all answers to European Commission (EC) additional questions by April 21, says Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic. Serbia to answer all EC questions “by April 21” “A large part of answers to those questions is being sent at the moment. Answers are being sent successively, as soon as translation is finished and editing is done,” she explained. On March 25 Brussels sent 629 additional questions which referred to answers to the EC questionnaire that Serbian government representatives handed to the EC on January 31. “The additional set of questions, which is common in the EC work, largely refers to explanation to already submitted answers, although there were some completely new questions,” Delevic told daily Politika. The fourth team of Brussels experts, who are checking veracity of the answers to questions about customs and taxes, will finish its work in Belgrade by the end of the week. According to information from Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic’s office, one more expert team should arrive in Belgrade by the end of the month in order to analyze answers about asylum and migration. The EC will then, based on the Serbian authorities' answers, assessments of these missions and results of reforms, issue an opinion about the country's readiness to get the EU candidate status and whether it is ready to begin the accession negotiations. It is expected that the EC's opinion will be published on October 12. Bearing in mind that the EC will start writing its opinion in mid-June, Serbia only has two months left to fulfill obligations it assumed through action plan for obtaining the EU candidate status. In order to get the EU canidate status in December, Serbia will need all EU member states to unanimously support the EC opinion.
