Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and several Croat MPs welcomed Belgrade's decision to drop charges against Tihomir Purda and two others. They were suspected of committing war crimes against prisoners of war in Vukovar, a city in eastern Croatia, in 1991. Decison on suspected war criminal welcomed It turned out that it was the policy of reconciliation and cooperation which helped justice to win and which ensured the resolution of the case of Tihomir Purda, Josipovic said, noting that "irresponsible politicians" such as Andrija Hebrang and some right-winged media wanted to use the Purda case to discredit the policy of reconciliation and cooperation which he advocates. Josipovic stressed that cooperation between countries had been seen to be the best way to prevent injustices such as the one suffered by Purda from being made. Deputy Speaker in the Croatian parliament Vladimir Seks said that the Serbia's decision to drop the prosecution of the Croatian veterans was an expected and good outcome of the process. Croatia's Social Democratic Party President Zoran Milanovic said that due to a criminal negligence of the HDZ government, Purda had had to spend two months in custody. The way the Purda case was resolved was welcomed earlier on Thursday by Croatia's Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and parliament Speaker Luka Bebic.
