The Serbian parliament could have the election of the new central bank (NBS) governor on its agenda by the end of the current sitting. This is according to Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who told Tanjug news agency on Monday in Belgrade that the agenda could also include a debate on the changes to the Law on the National Bank. Parliament could debate new NBS chief “It would make sense for the NBS to draft that law. I do not know precisely how far the work on the text has progressed, but I expect that information in the coming days. In any case, it is my appraisal that we could interrupt the regular sitting in order to pass this law,” she was quoted as saying. The current sitting, that started on March 30 with 94 items on the agenda, will finish on May 5. Outgoing NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic announced his resignation on March 23, while the ruling coalition chose NBS Council Chairman Dejan Soskic as its candidate to replace him.
