About 1,000 people have gathered in Pristina at a protest organized by Kosovo NGOs against the protocol recently signed between EULEX and Serbian MUP. The protesters ended their march in front of EULEX HQ, where they were addressed by Self Determination leader Albin Kurti. Protests in Pristina over protocol Kurti said that EULEX was a substitute for UNMIK, and the fact that the mission had no time frame meant that Kosovo was not independent. He accused the Kosovo leadership of being the chief culprit for the signing of the protocol. "Kosovo is only sovereign abroad, in embassies. In Kosovo, it’s not sovereign because it has EULEX behind it,“ he said, adding that the divisive protocol, like other protocols in the pipeline, were holding Kosovo back. Kosovo MP Driton Tali also spoke out against the agreement. Igballe Rugova, the leader of the Network of Kosovo Women, and the leader of the CHOHU (Arise) NGO, Avni Zogiani, who also addressed protesters in front of the Kosovo assembly, accused the authorities of betraying Kosovo and called for Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci’s resignation. Kosovo Speaker Jaqup Krasniqi was also accused of being a traitor. Zogiani accused Kosovo’s senior officials of being dependent on international officials and of doing all they could do make the Kosovo people dependent too. Police forces stood guard outside the EULEX building and Kosovo government building during the protest. The protesters carried banners reading “Kosovo in EU without EULEX,” “Protocol—Alliance with Serbia,” No to EULEX” and “It is over Ciko (Adem Jasari) - Kosovo is sold,” and chanted “No to division, we protect our sovereignty,” “Down with Resolution 1244,” “KLA, KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army).” No incidents have been reported so far, but although there are no police in sight, strong security forces are guarding the entrances to the city. Today’s protest is not the first against the protocol. Self-Determination activists demolished 28 EULEX vehicles in protests against the announcement of the agreement three weeks ago.
