PACE to debate minorities in Serbia
The agenda of PACE’s session will include discussion of the position of ethnic minorities in Vojvodina and the position of Romanian minority in eastern Serbia.

The agenda of PACE’s session will include discussion of the position of ethnic minorities in Vojvodina and the position of Romanian minority in eastern Serbia. The report, that was initially scheduled to be on the autumn session’s agenda on Thursday, states that cultural diversity should be treasured and not viewed as a threat. PACE to debate minorities in Serbia The report points out that ethnically motivated incidents, such as occurred during the Slobodan Milosevic regime, still exist today but to a far lesser extent. The report calls on Serbia’s authorities to sanction those who promote intolerance towards minorities. The discussion of the report that also contains a draft resolution has been postponed on a number of occasions due to technical reasons, so that three years after it first appeared, the text of the resolution has been significantly amended and updated. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will also today discuss the situation in Cyprus. PACE will end its autumn session on Friday, with a debate on how to tackle violence against women.
