The trial of 3 men charged with the murder of basketball player Jovan Manovic from Split has been adjourned until September 17. It comes after the Palace of Justice received an anonymous bomb threat, the 32nd such since February 20. Hoax tip-off interrupts murder trial The murder was committed last year in the Zodijak bar in Belgrade on May 9, 2006. A defense witness called by defendant Dragan Cvetkovic was due to testify at today’s hearing. Cvetkovic’s co-accused are Bojan Bacovic from Uzice and Milanko Ivanovic from Cajetina. According to the indictment, Ivanovic, having made an agreement with Backovic, pulled up in front of the Zodijak bar on a motorcycle and shot Manovic three times in the chest, having mistaken the victim for the real target, Goran Maric. At the time of Manovic’s murder, Maric was sitting at the adjacent table, wearing sports gear, just like the unfortunate athlete. Backovic and Ivanovic are also charged with the attempted murder of Marko Nikolic, on December 24, 2005 on Zlatibor Mountain. Backovic offered Ivanovic EUR 10,000 for that hit. At the beginning of the trial, Cvetkovic and Ivanovic refused to enter a plea, emphasizing that their statements to the police had been forcibly extracted, while Backovic insisted that he was innocent and that he had been set up.
