United Nations Kosovo mission UNMIK's new chief Lamberto Zannier said in Pristina on Monday that he is "not quite clear yet on the role of UNMIK". He explained that this pertained to the period following the new Kosovo constitution taking effect, and that he expects to receive instructions on this from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon soon. Zannier awaits instructions on UNMIK role Following a meeting with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and Kosovo assembly head Jakup Krasnici, Zannier said he "would not raise sensitive political issues during the talks between Pristina and Belgrade", which he will mediate, Tanjug news agency said. The resolving of problems will be discussed with everyone and the talks will be transparent, the Italian diplomat said, specifying that he will attempt to solve those problems that will contribute to improving the lives of the people who live in Kosovo. Sejdiu said that the agenda of the Pristina-Belgrade talks "cannot include a single question pertaining to the status of Kosovo". "That process is completed, it has international support, and the state of Kosovo is recognized as an independent and sovereign state by many countries of the world," said Sejdiu. "Kosovo needs to communicate with Belgrade as with a neighboring country," he continued, "to discuss practical questions pertaining to the Ahtisaari plan". Sejdiu also said that he had asked Ban, during a recent meeting in New York, that the deadlines for the reconfiguration of UNMIK should be "short and the contents clear". Lamberto Zannier (Beta)
