Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic confirmed today that Fiat had given up on building its cooperative factories at Korman Polje in Kragujevac. He has announced that a new location for producers of Fiat components will be Grosnica military complex near Kragujevac. New location for Fiat cooperative factories Dinkic points out that he has reached an agreement with Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac to make military warehouse of 30,000 square meters available for Fiat cooperative factories. According to the agreement, the military will be given warehouse on some other location. “Villagers who requested EUR 4,000 per are at Korman Polje are now free to see if they can get a better price for the location in the market,” the economy minister pointed out. When asked whether Fiat’s investments were jeopardized by the problem at Korman Polje, he said that “this was not an issue and it was only a matter of speed and lost time”. Dinkic explained that the process was sped up thanks to efforts and the agreement with the defense minister. He also repeated that the military warehouse was only 500 meters from Fiat’s headquarters and that the Italian car manufacturer had already chosen suppliers for the first phase and that the project was going full steam ahead. According to the contract with Fiat, the state was obliged to provide a duty free zone for Fiat’s suppliers and the government decided in January 2010 to make Korman Polje duty free zone.
