The Serbian government and the IMF have reached agreement on the 6th review of the current stand-by arrangement, worth a total of EUR 2.9bn. The agreement on the latest review is expected to be approved during a government session in Belgrade this Thursday, and the news was also confirmed by President Boris Tadic, who is visiting Croatia. Government, IMF agree on review An IMF mission was in Serbia from October 21 until November 5, but its members left, saying the final agreement would be reached in further talks between the IMF headquarters in Washington and the government in Belgrade. The main reason for the delay was harmonizing of the Serbian 2011 budget draft, while the details regarding the draft Law on Pensions and Disability Insurance must be hammered out by December 22 when IMF's Board of Directors is scheduled to meet. The changes to the law proposed by the government caused protests by five trade unions in Serbia, who, among other demands, sought guarantees that average pensions would not go below 60 percent of average salaries.
