Operation Pluto 2 nets 47 suspected of corruption

Members of Serbia's Interior Ministry (MUP) have arrested 47 persons and filed criminal complaints against 19 others, a statement said on Monday.

Operation Pluto 2 nets 47 suspected of corruption

The operation was carried out in Belgrade, Pancevo, Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Subotica, Valjevo, Smederevo, Jagodina, Uzice, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Nis, Leskovac, Vranje, Pirot, Prokuplje, and Novi Pazar.

The suspects are charged with committing a number of crimes starting in 2005 that caused damage totaling EUR 17.5 million to the state budget, as well as the budgets of the province of Vojvodina and the City of Belgrade, and to other "business and physical entities."

Among those arrested is a former manager at the State Directorate for Commodity Reserves, as well as doctors, civil engineer inspectors, registrars, and investors.

This police operation was launched on March 1 when 53 persons were arrested.
