"They were stopped": Russians left without tanks?

Ukrainian President Zelensky said Pentagon's assessment that Russia has lost about 50 percent of its tanks in Ukraine, "more or less corresponds to reality."

"They were stopped": Russians left without tanks?

Zelensky stated that Russia suffered "unbelievable" losses of both military personnel and equipment in the war against Ukraine.

Deputy head of the Pentagon, Colin Cull, told reporters Tuesday that Russia "will come out of the war against Ukraine weaker than it went into it," adding that it "probably lost half of all the main battle tanks it has." Cull added that "more than 80 percent of Russian army ground forces stuck in Ukraine" and that Russia has "emptied most of its stockpile of precision-guided missiles" in Ukraine.

"No one knows exactly how many Russians died, but..."

Asked by a CNN reporter whether the Pentagon's estimates correspond to information from the ground in Ukraine, Zelensky said: "I think they more or less correspond to reality. Although, to be honest, no one knows the exact numbers, especially regarding the number of dead Russian soldiers."

Zelensky estimated that Russia suffered about 10 times more losses than Ukraine, adding that while he could not provide exact figures, there was a "significant difference" between Russian and Ukrainian losses. He said that Ukraine does not want to use its army as cannon fodder, adding that this is another reason why Ukraine's losses are not as high as Russia's.

"Whenever we ask our partners to send us artillery or armored vehicles, it is not only about weapons, but above all about the protection of our military personnel," Zelensky said. The Ukrainian leader says that the artillery sent to Ukraine by the USA and Europe played a significant role in the defeat of the Russian military offensive.

"We stopped them and de-occupied a large part of our territory. Artillery and new technologies that we received from the allies helped a lot in this," Zelensky concluded.
