A heavy accusation from the US; A quick reaction from Pyongyang followed: "Never..."

The reaction came after the US claimed that Pyongyang was supplying Moscow with artillery shells for the war in Ukraine.

White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby said earlier that the artillery ammunition from North Korea is coming to Russia as a covert shipment to the Middle East or Africa and that it is "a significant number of artillery shells", according to Reuters.

A North Korean defense ministry official called the accusations rumors and said Pyongyang "has never had an arms trade with Russia" and has "no plans to do so in the future," KCNA reported.

The statement said that Pyongyang sees such "rumors" as part of a "hostile attempt by the United States to tarnish North Korea's image in the international arena."

Any aid in arms would further deepen relations between Pyongyang and Moscow, whose isolation is growing due to the war in Ukraine, and North Korea is one of the few countries that has recognized the independence of breakaway Ukrainian regions and expressed support for their annexation to Russia, according to Reuters.
