NATO angry at Biden? "It requires urgent clarification"

In an article by "Bloomberg", which refers to an unnamed diplomat, the agency states that Washington's position on that issue "infuriated the government of one of those countries".

"They demand an urgent clarification of what President Biden is planning," the source said.

According to the article, the "eastern wing of NATO" is worried about possible concessions to Russia in terms of political guarantees and restrictions on the Alliance's activities.

President of the United States, by the way, talked with the leaders of the "Bucharest Nine", i.e. the group of countries that make up the eastern wing of NATO, about the Ukrainian crisis.

The conversation was held after a video conference between Biden and Russian leader Vladimir Putin and a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The conversation lasted about 40 minutes. Details have not been released, but the U.S. administration said earlier that the U.S. President intends to inform partners about the conversation with Putin, to hear their opinion on the current security situation and to emphasize the U.S. commitment to transatlantic solidarity.

At the same time, the White House pointed out that the United States is ready to discuss with Russia all issues of concern to it and suggests that existing platforms be used for this - the Russia-NATO Council, OSCE, and possible negotiations with partners are being actively discussed.

"The invitation remains in force and we continue to look for a way for further diplomatic cooperation on a whole range of issues," they said from Washington.

A spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said earlier that the Alliance, in the absence of a desire to jointly seek ways for de-escalation, actually buried the Russia-NATO Council. In such conditions, working on challenges and dangers to regional security is impossible and makes no sense.

The Alliance itself has given up any practical cooperation with Russia and contacts at the military level, she pointed out. In October, NATO representatives revoked the accreditations of eight associates of the Russian Mission and ordered Russia to halve the number of members of the permanent mission from 20 to 10.

After that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow would suspend its permanent NATO mission from November 1, as well as the Chief Military Representative.

In addition, as of November 1, Russia is suspending the work of the NATO communications military mission in Russia, while the accreditation of Alliance representatives is being revoked.
