Billionaire Donald Trump has officially become the candidate of the Republican Party for the U.S. presidential election, to be held in the fall.

Trump wins Republican nomination for U.S. election

Trump addressed the Republican National Convention that voted to make him the party's candidate, to say it was "an honor," and reiterate his policy goals: strengthening the border and law and order, "getting rid of Islamic State," and - "making America great again."

The speakers at the convention focused mostly on attacking Hillary Clinton, who is expected to be the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party.

Thus former New Jersey governor Chris Christie said: "As a former federal prosecutor, I welcome the opportunity to hold her accountable for her performance and her character," to which the crowd responded by shouting, "Lock her up! Lock her up!”

He criticized Clinton for using a private email server: “Let’s face the facts: Hillary Clinton cared more about protecting her own secrets than she cared about protecting America’s secrets."

An FBI investigation found that she was "extremely negligent" but that her actions did not require criminal prosecution, but those attending the convention found her "guilty."

Christie also accused Clinton of being “chief engineer of the disastrous overthrow of Gaddafi in Libya," and also criticized her role in the U.S. policy on Syria.
