British PM vows to fight against breakup of his country He is slated to meet with Scottish leader Alex Salmond, whose Scottish National Party, described in media reports as "separatist", has long advocated Scotland's independence. Cameron plans to deliver a speech, which, according to excerpts that have been published in advance, will warn that Scotland's independence could jeopardize Britain's status in Europe and NATO, and also bring into question its permanent UN Security Council membership. Salmond, meanwhile, wishes to see the referendum held in September 2014, so that the separation of Scotland from Britain could be finalized with elections for the Scottish parliament in May 2016.
