One of the U.S. diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks shows that Israel was preparing for a major war in the Middle East. The cable was published in an article in Norway's Aftenposten daily, the BBC in Serbian is reporting. "Israel preparing for major war" The document, dated November 2009, says that the Israeli Army chief Gabi Ashkenazi told members of a U.S. delegation that Iranian long-range missiles "represent serious danger for Israel". Ashkenazi also stressed that a more immediate danger was seen in Hezbollah and Hamas, and accused Tehran of providing them with arms and money. The cable also cites Ashkenazi's prediction that the next war in the Middle East will be fought in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
