At least 702 people are now known to have died following the massive mudslide in north-west China. The desperate search for almost a thousand residents still buried in Zhouqu is on-going — but hope of finding any more survivors is fading by the hour. The Chinese military machine appears to be in full swing with food, water and tents finally appearing to get through to victims after some reports of difficulties. Engineers are also battling to drain an unstable lake above the town, with fears it may burst and bringing with it more misery.
