If Russia faces grave danger, it could strike back with nuclear weapons, Yury Baluyevski says. The chief of the Russian Army general staff said Saturday in Moscow that such strikes could also be "preventive." Army chief: We'll use force to protect Russia, allies "We do not plan to attack anyone, but we believe it is necessary for all our international community partners to understand […] that we will use military force to protect territorial integrity and sovereignty of Russia and her allies," the general was quoted by news agencies. This force could also take shape of preventive nuclear strikes, Baluyevski confirmed. The Associated Press says that such stern warnings from the head of the Russian military likely do not constitute for Moscow's change of political course, but that they do come at a time of strained relations between Russia and the United States, over Washington's plans to build a missile defense system in eastern Europe.
