Many were barefoot, suffering from frostbites and sores, and have received basic assistance from the Info Park network for refugees. 180 packages of food, as well as clothing and shoes, have been distributed, the network said.Many were unable to wear shoes due to the injuries to their feet, so they were given slippers, said Info Park, describing the newly arrived refugees as being in a poor condition, tired and disoriented.
The Refugee Aid Serbia (RAS) decided to distribute food and clothes sooner than is customary so they could all be accommodated in the reception center in Krnjaca.
The Commissariat for Refugees said in a report that a total of 600 people found shelter in Kranjaca overnight.
"Important role"
Serbia has done a great job in the midst of the migrant crisis and proved that it could play an important international role in the protection of refugees, participants in a conference on asylum seekers, held at Media Center Belgrade, agreed on Friday.Anne-Birgitte Krum-Hansen, UNHCR Belgrade senior protection officer, pointed out that Serbia had shown hospitality towards migrants and provided them with the basic protection and humanitarian aid in cooperation with international organizations.
She said, however, that the national protection mechanisms and asylum system should improve.
It was pointed out at the conference said that Serbia would get EUR 7.2 million from the IPA funds for the establishment of an asylum center and processing asylum applications.
