Missing boy drowned, brother says he invented "kidnapping"

Stefan Ilic's body was recovered on Monday from the Karas River after a villager spotted it floating in the water, some 300 meters from his family home in Banatska Subotica, near the town of Bela Crkva, in eastern Serbia.

The autopsy has shown that the boy drowned, while there was no evidence of violence on the body.

Speaking on Monday afternoon during a news conference, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said it was unlikely that the kidnapping happened at all.

Stefan Ilic was last seen alive on Saturday. The only witness to his disappearance was his younger brother.
