Sheik donates 10 tons of dates to Muslims in southwest

The United Arab Emirates have donated 10 tons of dates "to citizens of Novi Pazar on the occasion of the forthcoming Ramadan holiday."

Sheik donates 10 tons of dates to Muslims in southwest

The dates were received at a local customs terminal when Mayor Meho Mahmutovic said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's donation was worth EUR 25,000.

"Dates, as an unavoidable iftar (evening meal) food, will be distributed to disadvantaged citizens of Novi Pazar, through the Red Cross and humanitarian organizations," said Mahmutovic.

He also recalled that several projects are being implemented in Novi Pazar that are funded by donations from the UAE, such as a diagnostic center, kindergartens and elementary schools.

"This new donation shows once again that we have sincere friends of both Novi Pazar and Serbia in the UAE, and in Sheikh Zayed," said the mayor.

The month of Ramadan will start for Muslim believers on June 17, and during it they will abstain from food, drink and bad thoughts and deeds from morning until evening.
