Anthrax breakout reported in northern villages

Agriculture Ministry has declared the villages of Bocar and Novo Milosevo in the northern Serbian municipality of Novi Becej anthrax infected areas. Use of meat and milk from infected animals is forbidden. Anthrax breakout reported in northern villages The Agriculture Ministry has pointed out that all precautions have been taken in order to protect people and animals. It is also said that the “situation in the field is stable, with minimal possibility that the disease will spread”. A veterinary inspector took all necessary measures at a farm in the village of Bocar where the infection broke out and ordered all veterinary institutions in Novi Becej to perform an emergency vaccination of all animals that could be affected, it is said in the statement. Novi Becej Assistant Municipal President Tomislav Ratkovic told Beta news agency that two people had been hospitalized because they had been in contact with a dead animal. He stressed that condition of both patients was good and that there was no reason to panic.
