Ceremonies in Belgrade this Wednesday are mark the liberation of the capital city in the Second World War. Serbian President Boris Tadic attended ceremonies at the monument dedicated to the defenders of Belgrade. WW2 Belgrade liberation day marked Serbia and Russian officials will place wreaths at memorials dedicated to the defenders of Belgrade and to Red Army troops. The military cemeteries at the memorials are the resting places of 961 Red Army soldiers and 2,994 members of the Yugoslav NOR. Visiting Russian Army Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Nikolai Makarov, his Serbian counterpart Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletic and Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac will be among those taking part in the ceremonies. Other delegations, including from embassies of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Azerbaijan will today honor those fallen in the final battles 66 years ago to liberate Belgrade from Nazi German occupation.
