The Days of Sarajevo festival will officially open at the Belgrade Cultural Center with an exhibition “Objectively 1” by a group of Sarajevo photographs. The festival will be open until May 23 and will be held at 15 locations. It encompasses exhibitions, performances, films, concerts as well as panel discussions about social-political issues. “Days of Sarajevo” to begin in Belgrade Organizers and participants are announcing a rich and high-quality program of the festival which was initiated in 2007 in order to re-establish friendly relations, primarily between the youth of Sarajevo and Belgrade. Sarajevo musician Damir Imamovic says that this year’s festival no longer has the feel of a reunion of Belgrade and Sarajevo residents after the war of the 1990’s, but that it has grown into a serious cultural manifestation in which 200 primarily young people will take part this year. “Very often festivals which focus on human rights and which have human rights or some other thing other than culture itself for a basis, end up only with emphatic statements and are professionally very thin. It seems to me that this festival, year in and year out, is creating high-quality connections and that’s only possible if the people connect in a professional way,” he told a news conference in Belgrade that announced the festival. City of Belgrade representative Darko Runic, of the Agency for Cooperation with NGOs, pointed out that the festival representing Sarajevo in Belgrade is richer this year and that it will last longer. He also promised that the festival’s growth trend will continue in the future. “Both Sarajevo and Belgrade belong to a unique cultural space and we share a common future. It’s necessary to work on reestablishing connections,” Runic stressed. The organizers have drawn special attention to three panel discussions to be held at the Center for Cultural Decontamination: “Violence at Football Games”, “How Not to Have Our Past Repeated?” and, “Relations in the Region, 15 Years after the Dayton Peace Accords”.
