Two groups of monks clashed in the Gracanica monastery grounds in this Kosovo Serb enclave, reports from the province said this afternoon. A group of monks who support Bishop of Artemije tried on Sunday, after the arrival of Bishop Atanasije – appointed yesterday in Belgrade as the administrator of the Diocese of Raska and Prizren – to enter the Gracanica ,onastery with the intention to protect Bishop Artemije, who was temporarily stripped of his powers. Monks clash in Gracanica Monastery After several failed attempts, twenty-odd monks, headed by the monks of the Crna Reka Monastery, physically assaulted the monks who support the decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) – according to KIM Radio. There was physical conflict at the main gate of the monastery. According to the radio, after the slash, the group withdrew and broke into the monastery through the back entrance. The Kosovo police, KPS, did not interfere in the conflict, but its members tried to separate the groups, according to reports. The monastery yard was "full of people, soldiers and police" this Sunday afternoon. Unofficial reports said that members of the Serb National Council from Kosovska Mitrovica were on their way to Gracanica, to offer support to Bishop Artemije.
