Workers of the privatized Prvi Maj company will continue blocking the international railroad connecting Belgrade and Skopje on Tuesday. The workers are calling for an agreement reached last summer with the government to be honored, which calls for wages to be paid, along with benefits, for production in the company to restart, and for funds for a social program to be secured. Workers continue to block railroad Union President Novica Markovic said that the workers have decided to block the railroad track all day if talks do not begin with government officials for solving the problem. “We sent a letter to the government on November 10 with a demand to fulfill the agreement immediately, which was reached in July for the payment of wages, benefits and the start of production,” Markovic said, adding that workers are also calling for the revision of the agreement for selling the company if the demands are not met, because the employer would then not have fulfilled his obligations. Prvi Maj workers will be joined in the protest by workers of the Kraguj company from Batocina, which is currently in bankruptcy procedures. Prvi Maj workers blocked the track three times during their protests that lasted from April 6 to July 24. The company was sold in 2006 for RSD 82mn (about EUR 880,000) and the majority owner is Novi Sad-based Autovojvodina.
