Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz has praised the status of the Hungarian minority in Serbia. She said that the situation would be even better if the Vojvodina Hungarians were to receive cultural autonomy. Budapest pleased with Hungarian minority status Goncz met in Subotica with Vojvodina Hungarian leader Istvan Pastor. She said that she was pleased with the fact that the Hungarian minority in Vojvodina enjoyed all its rights, adding that the enactment of the new Vojvodina statute would enhance the status of minorities still further. The minister said that it was important to preserve language and other cultural characteristics, while maintaining the identity of the Hungarian national community in Vojvodina. Pastor said that the Hungarian minority enjoyed all rights afforded to national minorities under European standards, but that more should be done to employ Hungarians in local institutions and companies.
