Stambolić, Ibarska verdicts upheld

The verdict was confirmed by the Supreme Court in a second-instance procedure on July 10, after which the convicts filed an appeal that was today dismissed as groundless by the same court.

Ulemek and Berček can no longer appeal the verdict, which has taken its full effect.

Berček is a former officer of the now disbanded Special Operations Unit (JSO), established by Serbia's state security (DB) in the early 1990's and placed under MUP command in 2001.

Ulemek, the unit's former commander, has been sentenced to 40 years in jail when he was found guilty as the first accused in the Đinđić assassination trial.
