Inmate injured in police raid dies

Leskovac Human Rights Committee chairman Dobrosav Nešić told the newspaper Stefanović was one of 38 prisoners who “didn’t take part in the riots, but were asleep as Gendarmerie officers stormed the prison beating them brutally”.

The daily has unofficially learned that the first results of the post-mortem show “a significant reduction in the size of kidneys”, however, without any explanation as to the reasons for that. The medical examiner’s office also told Danas the necessary analyses have not yet been completed.

The prisoners who sustained injuries after riot police and Gendarmerie units intervened to stop their intended takeover of prisons in Niš and Zabela intend to sue some of the officers who participated, adding that some inmates were being “intimidated and threatened in a bid to dissuade them from taking legal action”.
