The Montenegrin government has suspended its "economic citizenships” program until it has been harmonized with the European Union. This is according to the Director of the Directorate on Consular Affairs in the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zeljko Stamatovic. Montenegro suspends economic citizenships The government announced early August that "renowned businessmen of credible reputation" would be able to obtain Montenegrin passports by directly investing in Montenegro and its economy, and by donating the country's budget. It was planned that the interested persons invest at least EUR 500,000 as part of the qualification process for acquiring Montenegrin citizenship. Part of the funds were to be directly deposited into the country's budget.
