The situation in Bosnia has never been worse since the conclusion of the Dayton Accords, says MEP Doris Pack, head of the EP’s delegation for South-East Europe. Pack, who is on a two-day trip to Bosnia-Hercegovina, has launched a resolution adopted last week by the European Parliament (EP), calling for a stronger state and faster reforms. EP: Situation in Bosnia never worse “It’s more serious than I thought. I’ve been monitoring Bosnia for a long time and it’s now worse than before. I see no desire to move forward,“ said Pack. She stressed that Bosnia-Hercegovina needed to move forward, but that the country had never been “so frustrating“ and “sorry.“ Pack added that the Office of the High Representative could not do the work of domestic politicians and that the country could not enter the EU as a protectorate. “The Republic of Srpska is blocking adoption of a law that’s a condition for a visa-free regime. You’re looking at a number of laws that have not been adopted in the Bosnian parliament. They include those pertaining to border management, implementing an anti-corruption strategy and others. Those are just some examples where there is no progress because of the RS,“ she said. She added that the RS was blocking implementation of the visa Road Map, adding that the RS prime minister’s talk of returning powers to the entities was not a step forward, but back. “Only a functioning Bosnia-Hercegovina can enter the EU,“ Pack stressed.
