Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic said Friday Montenegro would be "careful and level-headed in regard to Kosovo". Vujanovic told reporters in the Adriatic port of Bar, where he began his campaign for the presidential elections that are scheduled for April 6, that "civic peace in Montenegro had not been threatened because of the events in the neighboring region". Vujanovic added that Montenegro “has to have a good communication with Serbia” and reiterated that “Montenegro and Serbia should be an example of friendly relations.” Podgorica has not yet announced if it has any plans to recognize Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence, which Serbia has rejected. Montenegro has large ethnic Serb and Albanian minorities, with Serbs keeping up the anti-independence pressure on the government with peaceful demonstrations.
